Through images and texts, this publication documents the tribute paid by the city of Spoleto to artist Giuseppe Penone on the occasion of the 69th edition of the Festival dei Due Mondi. Penone was invited to create the Festival's official poster and, at the same time, to present three site-specific interventions across the city: the exhibitions Anafora and Ephemĕris, installed respectively at Palazzo Collicola and the Baptistery of the Manna d'Oro, and the monumental sculpture Le foglie delle radici (The Leaves of the Roots), installed in the public space of Piazza Pianciani.
Anafora brings together eight large-scale sculptures that exemplify Penone's artistic practice, centred on the dialectical relationship between humans and nature, in dialogue with the rooms of Palazzo Collicola's Piano Nobile. Ephemĕris comprises seven videos in which the artist performs subtle, elemental gestures, using physical action upon matter to 'release the soul of things.' The focus is shifted away from the finished artwork toward the artistic process itself.
The publication includes an introductory essay by the curator, together with contributions by Daniele Cipriani, Artistic Director of the Festival dei Due Mondi, and Maria Teresa Venturini Fendi, President of the Carla Fendi Foundation.
