Originating from research conducted within the archives of the Mostra Internazionale del Nuovo Cinema di Pesaro, this publication gathers and reworks—through a partially aleatory cut-up process—letters, programmatic statements, reports, questionnaires, interviews, debate summaries, and critical booklets that accompanied film screenings and sought to provide audiences with tools for interpreting and envisioning a new cinema and a new reality.
Especially in the early years, this body of texts—although written by various people holding different roles (event organizers and curators, filmmakers, critics, cultural workers, scholars, producers, distributors...), appears almost as a trace of a kind of collective thinking, to which each participant contributed in their own way, with their ideas, their point of view, their words, their cultural, geographical and political perspectives.
The resulting collage highlights the key concepts, the slogans, the ideals, by de-contextualizing and isolating them, juxtaposing them into a kind of manifesto that, in fact, was never actually written in this form—to test its power and relevance in a profoundly transformed cultural and ideological landscape.
